What Does the Parish Council Do?

Represents You: The Parish Council gives views on planning applications and other proposals that affect the parish. It also alerts relevant authorities to problems that arise or work that needs to be undertaken.

Manages Local Projects: The Parish Council undertakes projects and schemes that benefit local residents. It also awards small grants in support of projects or initiatives proposed by others that benefit the local community.

Forges Partnerships: The Parish Council works in partnership with other bodies to achieve benefits for the parish.

Communicates With You: The Parish Council helps the other tiers of local government keep in touch with their local communities.

It is the Mission of the Parish Council to be an essential part of the structure of local democracy and to act on behalf, and in the best interests, of the community it represents.

There are 7 members of the Parish Council which meets 6 times a year.  Further information about the Council and its work may be found on the pages of this website.

Meetings of the Parish Council

Meetings of the Parish Council are usually held every two months and take place on the first Wednesday of the month in question. Meetings are normally held in the Helsington and Brigsteer Village Hall and, when issued, all meeting papers are posted on the Parish Council noticeboard at the Village Hall and on the Meetings page of this website.

The public are most welcome to attend meetings and the Agenda provides an opportunity for public participation. 

VACANCIES FOR COUNCILLORS ON THE PARISH COUNCIL

Are you passionate about your local area – do you want to support efforts to enhance the quality of life in Helsington and Brigsteer? If so, have you considered putting yourself forward to become a co-opted Member of Helsington Parish Council?  

There are vacancies for 2 new Councillors which can be co-opted by the Parish Council and a third to be filled as a result of a resignation. Anyone interested in becoming a Councillor should contact the clerk@helsington-pc.gov.uk for further information and details of how to submit an Expression of Interest.

As a result of the national elections for membership of Parish Councils which were held on 02 May 2024, 5 nominations were received for the 7 places on Helsington Parish Council. As a result, membership of the Parish Council was Uncontested and there was no requirement for an election.
